The study of many exotic woods and burls has been Tracy Carpenter's passion for over fifteen years. He owns perhaps the world’s largest collection of Old Growth Redwood Burls, numbering over 1,000. This is a dwindling resource that must be protected for future generations. His collection was purchased from the estate of the late naturalist Burly Cox. No trees were cut down. These came from naturally fallen trees in the forests and river beds, mostly from the Ten Mile and Noyo River watershed in Northern California.
Carpenter’s collection varies in size from twelve inches, frequently used for Japanese Dai (stands), to massive slabs over ten feet wide. His work involves all types of furniture, including Bars, Desks, Tables, Bedroom Sets and many other pieces of Art. His styles range from contemporary work, to fine mountain lodge, to Japanese Mingei-style furnishings.
